![]() The Central Australian Camel Industry employs approximately 150 people. In 1992, its estimated value was $2.25 million. This inlcuded tourism, the live trade and the abbattoir trade. In April 1992 the Northern Territory government established an idustry based group to investigate future directions for central Australia's Camel Industry. this group, known as the Camel Industry Steering Committee (CISC) had representatives from the tourism industry, aboriginal organistaions, abbottior and pastoral industries and from the NT government. In May 1993 the CISC presented a report to the NT government explaining the importance of the existing industry and its potential for expansion. The report recommends actions designed to promote the industry. In May 1995 the CISC was replaced by an industry association called the Central Australian Camel Industry Association Inc. (CACIA). It is the Industry's Goal to be worth at least $12 million by the year 2005. | ||||||||||||||||
